For the last several weeks I’ve been keeping half-an-eye on the political insanity that’s been going on. Only now, it’s not only the news spewing opinion, it’s also facebook, twitter and every blog in my feed reader. I can’t believe how much people can buy into the promises these guys are making. I think it’s time for our politicians to trim some of their promises.
Up until a week ago, I was prepared to vote for Obama. My favorite candidate, Ron Paul, had tossed in the hat a while back and I just can’t possibly trust McCain and his flip-flopety ability to change his mind. Obama was at least inspirational and, despite the inexperience, I could see him making some change in the country.
But after his acceptance speech that I saw at the DNC, I was so appauled that I can’t vote for him either. The list of promises he made (of which, I KNOW cutting taxes was an outright lie) are not only improbable, they are impossible. The fact that he said he “will” do something verses the fact that he “will work towards” something is so significant. I am certain if he is elected that we will be looking at his list with only a very few promises checked off–and those will only be the halfway kind of checks that you do with a pencil when you know you want to feel like you did something, but you know it’s not done right.
So, it looks like I’ll be writing in the Ron Paul. He is potitician with more integrity than any other I know based on what he’s said and continues to say and his voting record. I know he’s not running, and I know that I’ll be “throwing away my vote” — but I don’t care anymore. I would rather know that I voted with integrity than know that I helped either of the two big candidates get into office.
It’s time for these guys to trim down their promises. Heck, I think it’s time for us to trim down the whole damn government.
In the words of Google (our supreme overlords! hehe) “Underpromise, Overdeliver.”

Mark,
Can I recommend some light reading? Have you read Obama’s wonderful books? You could stand with his Moslem brothers. Do you know that Obama is not only pro-choice, but is for spartan-like abortions after birth? Come on my brother in Christ. At least McCain had the intelligence to pick Palin. Please do not waste you vote because I really do not think Ron Paul would want our country left in the hands of Obama. If you want to make things different vote for the party of Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, and Ronald Regan.

Michael,
I have to respectfully disagree with some of your comments. First of all, I believe you are misinformed about Mr. Obama’s Religious beliefs. Mr. Obama, while he might not always act like as we believe a Christian should, he himself does claim to be, in fact, a Christian, and has attended a Christian Church for years. There is no real evidence that he is or ever has been a Muslim.
Secondly, abortion is not an issue that believe should be legislated. I believe it is the job of the church to love and respect people enough to build in them a respect for the unborn. Every abortion saddens me, but I don’t believe criminalizing abortion will fix the issue. People’s hearts are still messed up.
Thirdly, Jesus was not a white, middle class Republican and voting for the Republican party is certainly not the only appropriate action for a Christian to take. Both parties have rampant corruption throughout. Neither will be the “savior” of capital hill. The Republican party may have been the party of Lincoln and Roosevelt, but it’s also the party of Bush and Nixon. Many of the ideals Lincoln and Roosevelt set like small government and a sensible foreign policy are unrecognizable in the Republican party of today.
Lastly, I believe you are right saying that Ron Paul would not want our country left in the hands of Obama, but based on much of what he says of McCain, he would not want it in the hands of McCain either. I am choosing to vote for Ron Paul because he is certainly the “candidate” that I feel ideologically closest to. “Throwing away my vote” is significantly less important to me than being able to say that I voted with integrity.
With Christian Love and Respect,
Mark

To Both Mark and Micheal.
Look at all that talk you both are doing…. blah blah blah… John McCain and Barack Obama as the main choices then Ron Paul as a third choice.
it might be seem wierd or out of the world but…. Move to Canada.
the glorious political system is totally different… just look at our parties:
Main parties
Conservative • Liberal • Bloc Québécois • New Democratic
Other parties recognized by Elections Canada
Green • Christian Heritage • Progressive Canadian • Marxist-Leninist • Marijuana • Canadian Action • Communist • Libertarian • First Peoples • Western Block • Animal Alliance-Environment Voters • Neorhino.ca • People’s Political Power • Work Less • Newfoundland and Labrador First
We dont vote for leaders of the country. You just vote for your rep from your riding.(district down here in US). I will tell you that i voted all the time, Liberal. The main reason i did this is i did not like Brian Mulroney, Leader of the now defunct Progessive Conservative Party. Why i did not like him is because he destroyed the Canadian Military. And being an Army brat, I seen it first hand. Now why did i say defunct you may ask. well lets see in a nut shell. the PC party basicially went from majority government with 169 members to just 2. yes 2. That was the first year i voted. See what one Canadian can do. wink wink…. after that it divided into two parties. the Reform party was the western part of Canada, and the PC was the east. Eventually the Reform and PC party merged back together to form the Conservative party. they are the leading party this election in Canada, and of course they are in the lead in the poles. why you may ask? well where I am living right now… Lousiana… 2200 miles roughly from the border of Canada. My parents just got my voter card since the government still thinks i am in Canada. pissssssssssssss don’t tell them please..
welll who would I vote for this time. I would most likely vote for the liberal, but that is because there are no candadates for the party i want to vote for. Rhino Party. why this one? and actually it does not exist. well it is actually a by product of the Rhinoceros Party which is kinda represented by the Neorhino.ca here is a taste of their platform…
Repealing the law of gravity
Paving Manitoba to create the world’s largest parking lot
Providing higher education by building taller schools
Tearing down the Rocky Mountains so that Albertans could see the Pacific sunset
Abolishing the environment because it’s too hard to keep clean and it takes up so much space
Annexing the United States, which would take its place as the third territory, after the Yukon and the Northwest Territories (Nunavut did not yet exist) in Canada’s backyard, in order to eliminate foreign control of Canada’s natural resources
Ending crime by abolishing all laws
Putting the national debt on Visa
Declaring war on Belgium because a Belgian cartoon character, Tintin, killed a rhinoceros in one of the cartoons
Offering to call off the proposed Belgium-Canada war if Belgium delivered a case of mussels and a case of Belgian beer to Rhinoceros “Hindquarters” in Montréal (the Belgian Embassy in Ottawa did, in fact, do this)
Banning guns and butter, since both kill
Banning lousy Canadian winters
Renaming the country Nantucket
Building a bridge spanning the country, from Vancouver Island to Newfoundland.
Making the Trans-Canada Highway one way only.
You see reasonable and attainable goals which any government can promise. How can you not vote for them. So come on you two move to Canada with me. I know Andrea and Jennifer would love -30 degree winters. it is not bad once you get use to it.
PS. dont tell Melissa about the temperature, she doesnt know yet. hee hee hee
Now to be somewhat serious. Since I am a loyal 10 per center. ie Walton and Johnson radio show if you had to ask. I would have to vote for Ron Paul. I dont trust Obama. let me put in terms both of you will understand. I would not let my sons use my computers in the hope of them running my finances when they only had experience at playing on their toy laptops. why would I want Obama as president if he did nothing as a junior senator with less than one term to say the less. Also he doesn’t know how many states there is. I would not vote for John because he is not the maverick he once was. he is a clone of Bush now. even thought is was in the military, which is good. He was in the navy i think, which is bad. I was an Army brat and we are loyal to the army.
hmmmm of yeah all this is a moot point since i cannot vote. oh well. you try to contribute but just because you are canadian they cannot let you play in politics. I dont think this is fair. Who will stand with me? anyone? anyone at all? damn. tough room.
well good night everyone.
We in Canada appriciate all your attention to this rambling. I would have stopped earlier but Gavin had a dirty diaper and i was not in the mood to change it. All day in the sun working and when you get home a dirty diaper is waiting for you… come on. I know all you guys can understand and feel for me in this situation. he couldnt have gone sooner then Melissa would have had to change him. If you are reading this, Melissa… I love you..
oh well, time to get my hands dirty.
bye for now
William….
PS. Move to Canada. I know people.
