So, I finally found the plugin I’ve been looking for. The plugin that can take a photo from my camera to a blog post in under a minute–from within iPhoto, so I don’t have to browse, look, title, remember the day, ack, ack, ack.
It’s Photon. Photon is a plugin for iPhoto where you can export photos directly into blog posts for any blog that supports the Movable Type API–including Wordpress, Typepad, and of course, Movable Type.
The first thing you have to do is install the plugin. The site gives good instructions on copying it into your iPhoto plugins directory, that’s really all there is to it. I’ve only tested on iPhoto ‘06, not ‘08.
There was a couple of problems that I had to do a little research about–the Autodetect doesn’t work very well and the “access point” is the full URL. It also helps if the Blog ID is 0.
Beyond that, I set up which fields got mapped to which part of the post and it worked on the first try.

So, for all of you photo bloggers out there, get it, try it, love it. For all you “TheSimoneaus.com” readers, this will spell the end of the crazy long waits between updates. We may not get every day filled in between June and now, but we’ll start adding new items soon since all we have to do is open iPhoto!
Macs Rule.

We had a co-worker of mine who lives in Romania come to our Austin office for a month to work on a new project we’re pushing on up at work. Instead of putting him in a hotel, we farmed him out to various employees to stay with them. He’s staying with us for two weeks, including this coming week. This last week has been great. He’s practically become part of the family. The kids love him and run to him and give him hugs–especially Bethany. It’s really quite sweet. On top of all that, it’s been great getting to know him and hear a non-American perspective on the world. He’s just a neat guy.
One thing that he said that I thought was particularly interesting is that he’d done the “tourist thing” the last time he came to Austin, but what he’s really enjoyed is staying with families and getting to see American Family Life. I have no idea how representative we are, but it’s been a pleasure from our end to let him watch both our family fun, and our flat-out-failures in parenting, etc. (Potty Training, anyone?)
Tonight I broke my “don’t watch any R-rated movies” pact so we could show him “Office Space” — the best part is that that movie is still funny to any culture. He chuckled through most of the movie. If you’ve never seen it, I say it’s a “must see” that needs to be on your list.
